Wooden table 05:28
I sold my wooden table and gave away my silks, to go away and marry a man who played lap steel guitar. He wooed me with gentle caresses, and whispered the loveliest words. His eyes were loving and teary, and his lips were the kissing kind. I’d never thought I would marry or move to a foreign land, but something took me to go with him, and we thought that love was enough. CHORUS I spent many months organising, preparing for life as a migrant. I made many visits and conversations, farewells to family and friends. Some, they asked me about the wedding dress, and the close ones, they wondered why is he the one? They thought my going exciting but far, a long way to visit for a cup of tea. CHORUS With my winter coat and my treasures in hand, I cried with my brothers good-bye. I flew to America weary and sleepy, and landed in the arms of my man.

It makes me stop and wonder why, Why I am always going. And every place I take myself and stay for just a while. I wish I could hold me down and find the ground, Sit myself still. I’m blown away through the winds of change and a craving for the new. So I take myself, like a bird fleeing far, and the seasons are doing a dance. CHORUS Then I could settle and see what the messes and the losses could be, and the craving and the boredom and the restlessness could meet and just let them be. And the grasses and the flowers could grow like the creases on the faces I know. Could it be that there’s reason to stay? like a sleep in the afternoon sun.
